Go Nagai, born Kiyoshi Nagai on September 6, 1945, in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, is a legendary manga artist and one of the most influential creators in the history of Japanese pop culture. Known for his prolific output across science fiction, fantasy, horror, and erotica, Nagai revolutionized the anime and manga industries in the 1970s by pioneering entire genres that continue to shape entertainment today. After making his professional debut in 1967 with "Meakashi Polikichi," he quickly rose to prominence with his groundbreaking series Harenchi Gakuen, which helped define the ecchi genre with its risqué humor and boundary-pushing content. However, it was his creation of Mazinger Z in 1972 that cemented his legacy, as he invented the super robot genre and designed the first mecha robot piloted from within a cockpit, a concept that would become a staple of countless anime and manga to follow.

Nagai's creative genius extended far beyond giant robots, as he also introduced the world to Devilman, a dark, horror-infused manga that explored themes of humanity and demonic possession, which became a seminal work in the post-apocalyptic and supernatural genres.
