AceShowbiz - Jeremy Renner's involvement in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise spans two films, 2011's "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" and 2015's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation". During a recent interview on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Renner revealed that he was offered the chance to reprise his role as IMF agent William Brandt in the 2018 sequel "Mission: Impossible - Fallout." However, the offer came with a catch, Brandt was to be killed off after a one-week shoot.
Renner vehemently rejected the proposal, declaring, "You don't get to do that. You're not going to drag me over there and just kill my character." He insisted that if his character was to be used, it would be done properly.
Following his refusal, Renner did not return to the franchise. However, he recently expressed a willingness to play Brandt again, saying, "I love those guys. I love Tom so much. I'd always jump into a 'Mission: Impossible' anytime."
Despite rumors, Renner denied that Paramount considered him as a replacement for Tom Cruise as the franchise lead. "No, it was always Tom's show," Renner said. He explained of his former co-star, "As he's maturing as an actor, he wants to hold on. He's doing 'Top Gun' again because he's comfortable with it now."
