AceShowbiz - The fashion world is losing another icon. Roberto Cavalli passed away at the age of 83 on Friday, April 12, at his Florence home after an illness, and upon learning of the sad news, many public figures turned to social media to offer tribute to the late Italian fashion designer.
Cavalli's passing was confirmed by his team via Instagram. "A life lived with love. It is with great sadness that today we say our final goodbyes to our founder Roberto Cavalli. From humble beginnings in Florence, Roberto succeeded in becoming a globally recognised name loved and respected by all," the statement read.
"Naturally talented and creative, Roberto believed that everyone can discover and nurture the artist within themselves," the message added. "Roberto Cavalli's legacy will live on via his creativity, his love of nature and via his family who he cherished."
Giorgio Armani has since reacted to the devastating news. "I cannot imagine a vision of fashion more distant from mine than that of Roberto Cavalli, yet I have always had enormous respect for him," read a post shared by the Armani account on X, formerly Twitter.
"Roberto was a true artist, wild and wonderful in his use of prints, capable of transforming fantasy into seductive clothes," it further read. "I have learnt with great sadness of his passing: his Tuscan verve will be greatly missed."
Brazilian model Adriana Lima, meanwhile, shared on X a picture of her and Cavalli. Alongside the image, she penned, "Unapologetic in style & spirit. We lost a legend today. Rest in Peace, @Roberto_Cavalli."
Jennifer Hudson remembered Cavalli as "one of my favorite designers." Calling him a "true artist in every sense of the word," the actress added, "He made the world a more beautiful place and will be dearly missed. May he rest in peace!"
Cavalli has been famous since the early 1970s for his animal prints and sexy style, which have become his trademark throughout his long career. He first burst onto the scene in St. Tropez, finding fans in celebrities like Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren.
Cavalli died more than a year after he welcomed his sixth child. The inventor, who has five children from two previous marriages, shares the baby boy with his 38-year-old Swedish former playmate girlfriend Sandra Nilsson.
