According to Page Six, police refused to comment as it's in "an open investigation." However, sources claimed that Matt was believed to have died of an apparent suicide.

In the wake of his death, a representative for Debmar-Mercury issued a statement though it did not reveal details about his death or personnel issues. "We have retained [law firm] Morgan Lewis to help us investigate the matter and, pending the outcome of that investigation, we'll have no further comment," the rep said.

Prior to his death, Matt, whose job was to oversee the budget at "Sherri", was under investigation at the show at the time of his tragic death. The insiders added that several departments had been complaining about issues with petty cash. It was also said that parent company Debmar-Mercury has been made aware that the show's Chelsea, NYC, studio had not been paid since September 2023.

"There was real concern among staff that the show was getting shut down. Debmar had to step in," a source familiar with the situation continued.

Before working for "Sherri", Matt worked for Wendy Williams' "The Wendy Williams Show" which was later replaced by "Sherri". After being confronted about the new show's financial status, Matt allegedly said that he "needed a couple of days to get his paperwork together."

Another source, meanwhile, noted that production on "Sherri" has not been impacted. The show additionally included an in-memoriam for Matt in its February 15 episode.
