The professional basketball player issues a statement through his lawyer after it was unraveled that his singer wife filed for divorce from him back in January.

AceShowbiz - Iman Shumpert has broken his silence on his divorce from Teyana Taylor. In a statement through his lawyer, the NBA star said he wants to reach a "fair resolution" following his split from his singer wife.

The 33-year-old's lawyer, Stephen C. Steele, shared the statement with TMZ. "Mr. Shumpert hopes parties and counsel can work toward a fair resolution, keeping the best interests of the children of paramount concern," it read.

The statement arrived after TMZ reported that Teyana filed for divorce from her husband months before she confirmed their separation in September. According to the publication, the 32-year-old multi-talented star submitted the divorce papers in Georgia back in January.

In the docs, the musician accused the professional basketball player of "extreme narcissistic behavior" and being jealous of her fame. She said her ex would feel insecure about being good enough for her, despite the fact that he was earning way more playing basketball than she could ever dream of making in music.

Teyana noted that when Iman signed a $40 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015 and was paid $8 million by the New York Knicks, he remained aggravated by her notoriety and jealous of her acting career. The athlete allegedly would grow annoyed when they attended public events together and photographers asked for him to step out of frame.

Iman then reportedly started sending Teyana negative text messages with condescending and manipulative language in response to her being in the spotlight. She claimed he would pick fights with her for no reason, even on her birthday, and then apologize.

Teyana says that she "began to intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage" as Iman "became more and more angry" about her stardom. She even had to turn down recording opportunities and acting gigs because Iman "did not want her to work."

However, when Teyana stopped working after giving birth to one of their kids, Iman allegedly complained about her not making money. She said she fought to keep their family together despite Iman "being extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her."

Teyana says she used her connections to get Iman gigs in Hollywood as his NBA career wound down, but he "unfortunately insisted on bickering." She reveals that she first began a divorce process in 2021, but they then reconciled. Their reconciliation, however, was short-lived because Iman "remained in an insecure state as his NBA career continued to wind down."
