AceShowbiz - The new trailer for "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" offers fans a better look at the highly-anticipated series. Unveiled on Thursday, November 16, the new footage centers on Percy (Walker Scobell) who learns of his identity as a demigod, the son of Greek god Poseidon and a human.
In the trailer, the 12-year-old half-blood enters the Camp Half-Blood where demigod children receive protection and training to hone their unique skills. Later, he's given an important quest, which is to find Zeus' lightning bolt which has been stolen. "If you don't return the bolt, there will be war," someone warns him.
It won't be an easy task for Percy, who has not fully familiarized himself with life as a demigod. He can be seen facing numerous frightening monsters. Thankfully, he will be doing the quest with the help of his friends, a satyr named Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and fellow half-blood Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), who is the daughter of Athena.
The trailer also shares a glimpse of Lin-Manuel Miranda's guest appearance. "Demigods, welcome!" he tells the trio when they arrive at what seems to be a casino.
Based on author Rick Riordan's best-selling novels, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" follows the events of the first book in the series, "The Lightning Thief". It stars Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullay, Timm Sharp, Dior Goodjohn, Charlie Bushnell and Adam Copeland. In addition to Lin-Manuel, Toby Stephens, Jay Duplass, Timothy Omundson, Lance Reddick, Olivea Morton, Suzanne Cryer and Jessica Parker Kennedy will guest star.
Alongside Rick, Jon Steinberg co-wrote the pilot, while James Bobin directed it. Jon and James also serve as executive producers alongside Dan Shotz, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldbeg and Rebecca Riordan.
The eight-part series will debut its first two episodes on Wednesday, December 20 on Disney+, while new episodes will follow weekly.
