After it was recently reported that Marvel wants the original cast of 'The Avengers' back, Evans and Downey Jr. are said to have agreed to reprise their roles as Captain America and Iron Man respectively.

AceShowbiz - Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. may not be done saving the world. Despite Captain America's apparent retirement and Tony Stark/Iron Man's demise in "Avengers: Endgame", both actors are reported to return for another movie.

It's movie scooper MyTimeToShineHello which broke the exciting news via X, formerly known as Twitter, in separate tweets. The account first reported Downey Jr.'s alleged return earlier this month by simply posting, "RDJ already agreed to come back."

It did not provide any details of which project that the Academy Award nominee will appear in, but social media users have come up with speculation about how the MCU would revive the character. "Please, 838-universe Superior iron man. Evil version. More arrogant," one person suggested. Another wondered, "Okay, how do you think they'll handle it? Multiverse or revival?"

Later on Sunday, November 5, the same account posted that Evans has also agreed to come back, with claim about a specific project which he will allegedly star in. "Sources confirmed that Chris Evans also agreed to come back for Avengers: Secret Wars," the tweet read.

The posts arrive after Variety reported that Marvel has had talks about bringing back the original cast for a fifth installment of the superhero team-up movie, including reviving Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, both of whom were killed off in "Avengers: Endgame". The site, however, said that "the studio hasn't yet committed to the idea" as it was noted that bringing back those actors wouldn't be cheap.

Marvel allegedly considered to bring back the original "Avengers" line-up amid the lessening interest in superhero movies. Recent Marvel films, such as "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", failed to meet expectations at box office.

The original cast also include Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. While Hemsworth's Thor is still very much part of the MCU, there is no official update on the status of the rest superheroes.

The next "Avengers" movie, "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty", is set for a 2026 release with "Secret Wars" as the sixth installment in the superhero team-up series eying a 2027 release date.
