The longtime co-host of 'The View' admits that the unpleasant responses she received for her choice of style at the 1993 Academy Awards 'hurt' her 'feelings' and kept her from dressing up 'for a very long time.'

AceShowbiz - Whoopi Goldberg has blamed hurtful comments on her 1993 Oscars look for her fear to dress up. While making an appearance at the Fashion Group International Night of Stars gala, the longtime co-host of "The View" looked back on her choice of style which "everyone hated."

The 67-year-old TV personality opened up about the unpleasant responses she received for her outfit at the 1993 Academy Awards in an interview on Tuesday, October 17. Speaking to Page Six, she admitted, "Everyone hated [the look]. It hurt my feelings, I'm not going to lie. It hurt my feelings."

The EGOT winner went on to say, "It kept me from dressing up for a very long time." She further explained, "You have to remember, in those days, they would say things and you'd think, 'Do I really look that ridiculous?' "

For the 1993 event, Whoopi opted to wear a purple-and-green ensemble. She donned a long green jumpsuit that came with sparkling purple flower patterns all over it and a plunging neckline. Over it, she put on a long robe, which outer part is in purple color, while its inner part is in an eye-catching green color. She completed the look with a pair of matching pointed-toe high heels and golden huge earrings.

During the chat at the 2023 fashion event, Whoopi shared what led her to dress up again. Noting that she has a longtime love for "I Love Lucy" and its star Lucille Ball, she exclaimed, "Lucy would always come out in these great ensembles. And I thought, 'I would like to wear that!' And green is not a color I would normally wear; let me try it!"

Elsewhere in the interview, the "Sister Act" star talked about a pair of white high heels with "decapitated Barbies" inside their platforms that she owns. She shared, "Someone sent them to me and I thought, 'What are these?!' It was about three years before 'Barbie'. I did Barbiecore first!" She wore the "crazy" heels to commemorate Greta Gerwig's movie during the filming of "The View" in July.

Whoopi has embraced her choice of style ever since she started dressing up again. She even received the American Icon Award at the recent Fashion Group International Night of Stars gala.
