The 'Angel of Mine' singer defends her decision to jump off the stage because she couldn't just watch 'what appeared to be a situation that could have been escalated even further.'

AceShowbiz - Monica has once again addressed an incident at her recent show in Detroit. The "Angel of Mine" singer jumped off the stage while performing at Hart Plaza as part of the Riverfront Music Festival to confront a man who assaulted an older woman, and in an interview, she said she did it because her "instincts kicked in."

Speaking to "CNN Primetime", the 42-year-old explained, "Simply put, I didn't want to see her hurt or harmed, and her not make it back home after coming just to be a concertgoer for myself and Ashanti who was also on the show." She added, "You know, these concerts have become what almost feels like a dangerous space and place, and I just really want that to change."

"So, that was just when my instincts kicked in. I do not feel like I'm some form of superhero in any facet. But I did what I would hope that someone would do if they saw that happening to my aunt or mother, I could tell that she was - she's definitely elder," the College Park-born artist continued. "And there was a level of fear there for me, just watching what appeared to be a situation that could have been escalated even further, I was simply trying to de-escalate it."

Monica insisted that people were "supposed to be having a good time. Everyone is supposed to make it back home to their families." She concluded, "And every person that travels with me knows how I feel about people."

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 22. When Monica noticed the ruckus in the crowd. She paused her performance to warn the man, "Don't you hit her like that!"

Seemingly getting heated, "The Boy Is Mine" hitmaker then jumped off the stage to confront the man with a bodyguard quickly following her. It's unclear what she said to the man, but she was soon escorted back to the stage.

Monica has previously addressed the ordeal. "I apologized there & I'm apologizing here for my actions but no one would take action!" she commented on a video posted on The Shade Room's Instagram page. "I was so triggered, I watched & she didn't appear to even know him! It appeared to be about space during a packed concert! He punched her with ALL his strength!"

"My intentions were to prevent her from being hit again & she wasn't! I asked for help, it fell on deaf ears! It was like seeing my mother or an aunt be assaulted!!" she emphasized. "This woman was 50+ I pray she's ok! Happy Sunday to everyone!"
