AceShowbiz - Being blessed with good looks, fit physiques, wealth and fame, a bunch of male celebrities have been able to find love in their later years. Some of them are even up for the challenge to have a young child when they're old enough to become grandfathers.
While having a child is always a blessing for the lucky parents, becoming father as elder citizens can bring different meaning to life to some of these eldest celebrity dads. Some of them have been open about their experiences, while others have opted to keep theirs private. Here are some of them.
1. Larry King
When Larry King died in 2021, his estimated $2 million estate was split equally between his five children. Two of them, Chance King and Cannon King, were 21 and 20 years old respectively when the former late-night TV show host died at age 87. Yes, Larry welcomed his youngest child Cannon in May 2000, when he was 66 years old. He shared both Chance and Cannon with his seventh wife Shawn Southwick.
Larry became a father for the first time in November 1961 when his second wife Annette Kaye gave birth to his son Larry Jr. When he married his third wife, Playboy Bunny Alene Akins, he adopted her son Andy from a previous relationship before their daughter Chaia was born in 1969. Sadly, Andy and Chaia died within weeks of each other in 2020. Andy died unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 28, while Chaia passed away on August 20 shortly after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
2. Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood's family tree is perhaps harder to draw. The exact number of his offspring is not clear, since he has had numerous casual and serious relationships which overlapped over the years, but he has eight known children by six women. His youngest child, daughter Morgan Eastwoord, was born in December 1996 when the actor/director was 66 years old. The former Mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea shares Morgan with his second wife Dina Eastwood, whom he married in 1996.
The 92-year-old's eldest child, daughter Laurie, was born in 1954 out of an affair. Laurie was put up for adoption by her mother and he was reportedly unaware of her existence until he and Laurie connected years later. He shares daughter Kimber with ex-girlfriend Roxanne Tunis and welcomed son Kyle in 1968 and daughter Alison in 1972 with his first wife Margaret Neville Johnson. He shares son Scott, 37, and daughter Kathryn, 35, with ex-girlfriend Jacelyn Reeves. He also has daughter Francesca, 29, from a relationship with actress Frances Fisher.
3. Rod Stewart
Rod Stewart was also 66 years old when he welcomed his eighth child, son Aiden Patrick, in February 2011 with his third wife Penny Lancaster-Stewart. The couple also shares 17-year-old son Alastair. Ahead of Aiden's birth, the pair told PEOPLE magazine that they were "were thrilled and delighted to be able to tell Alastair that he was going to be a big brother."
Rod had his first child, 59-year-old daughter Sarah Streeter, with Susannah Boffey. From his first marriage to Alana Steward, he became parent to Kimberly Alana, 43, and son Sean Roderick, 42. The British rock and pop singer welcomed daughter Ruby, 35, with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg in 1987. He and his second wife Rachel Hunter also share daughter Renee Cecili, 30, and son Liam McAlister, 28.
4. Hugh Hefner
Considering his reputation as a ladies' man, it wouldn't surprising if Hugh Hefner planted his seeds everywhere during his years-long sexual escapade. He, however, was pretty modest when it comes to having kids. The late Playboy founder had four children with two different women. There's a big gap between his eldest and youngest child, though.
Christie, who is Hugh's oldest child, was born in 1952. She and her brother David, born in 1955, were from Hugh's marriage to his first wife Mildred "Millie" Williams. In his later years, he married Playmate of the Year Kimberley Conrad, who's 36 years his junior. From this marriage, he had sons Marston Glenn, born in 1990, and Cooper, born in 1991. He was 65 years old when he welcomed his youngest kid.
5. Steve Martin
Unlike the above-mentioned stars who have had multiple children before, Steve Martin only became a father for the first time at age 67. His wife Anne Stringfield gave birth to a daughter in 2012 after they got married in 2007. The "Only Murders in the Building" star has never publicly disclosed their daughter's name.
The 77-year-old comedian, however, did not regret becoming a first-time father in his elder years, saying it was "fantastic." He admitted, "I think if I'd had a child earlier, I would have been a lousy father because I would have misplaced my attention on my career." He further shared, "I am very forthcoming with her, and it's great," before adding, "She's giving me way more than I'm giving her."
6. Richard Gere
Having been romantically linked to a string of female celebrities, such as Barbra Streisand and Padma Lakshmi, and married to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995, Richard Gere finally became a father for the first time when he and second wife Carey Lowell welcomed their son Homer James Jigme Gere in February 2000.
Following his divorce from Carey in 2016, the "Pretty Woman" star married his third wife Alejandra Silva in 2018. He then became a father again when she gave birth to their first child together, son Alexander, in February 2019. Their second son was born in April 2020, when the actor was 70 years old. The couple has never publicly released the name of their youngest child.
7. David Foster
David Foster's love story with Katharine McPhee has drawn controversies since the beginning, mainly due to their age difference, but both of them have proven that they are faithfully committed to each other. After getting married in 2019, the couple welcomed their first child together, son Rennie David, in February 2021.
The Canadian musician was 71 at the time of his youngest child's birth. He told PEOPLE magazine that welcoming a new baby at his age was "not something" he expected but added, "I haven't regretted a single day of it." The legendary musician is also father to daughters Alison, 53, Amy, 49, Sara, 42, Erin, 40, and Jordan, 36, whom he shares with three different women, including first wife B.J. Cook and second wife Rebecca Dyer.
8. Charlie Chaplin
Besides his great legacy in the film industry, Charlie Chaplin left behind 11 children, 6 sons and 5 daughters, when he died in 1977. The English comic actor's love relationships were often controversial, with most of the women much younger than he. He was 73 and his health had been slowly deteriorating when his youngest child, Christopher James Chaplin, whom he shared with his fourth and final wife Oona O'Neill, was born in 1962.
Charlie and Oona are also parents to Geraldine Chaplin, Michael Chaplin, Josephine Chaplin, Victoria Chaplin, Eugene Chaplin, Jane Cecil and Annette Emily. His eldest child, son Norman Spencer, was born in 1919, but sadly died three days later. His mother was his first wife Mildred Harris. Charlie had two sons, Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr. and Sydney Chaplin, born in 1925 and 1926 respectively from his second wife Lita Grey. In 1943, actress Joan Barry, whom Charlie had an affair with, filed a paternity suit, claiming that he was father of her daughter Carol Ann. After a trial, "The Tramp" star was ordered to pay child support although blood tests indicated that he's not her biological father.
9. Mick Jagger
Mick Jagger still has the moves. In 2016, the English singer/songwriter became a father for the eighth time at 73 when his then-29-year-old girlfriend Melanie Hamrick gave birth to their son Deveraux Octavian Basil. "Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger's son was born today in New York and they are both delighted," a spokesperson for the musician said in a statement at the time.
The Rolling Stones frontman is also a dad to seven adult children with four other women. He shares daughter Karis, 52, with actress Marsha Hunt. The now-79-year-old rocker and ex-wife Bianca Jagger share daughter Jade, 51. He is also a father to daughters Elizabeth Jagger, 39, and Georgia May Jagger, 31, and sons James, 37, and Gabriel, 25, with his ex-wife Jerry Hall, and son Lucas, 23, from his relationship with model Luciana Morad Gimenez.
10. Robert De Niro
Robert De Niro surprised everyone when he revealed that he has become a father again at the age of 79. The actor casually spilled the beans during an interview in May 2023. After initially getting coy about it, he told Gayle King that he and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen welcomed a baby girl named Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro on April 6.
The "About My Father" star also has six other children with two different women. He and his ex-wife Diahnne Abbott are parents to daughter Drena, 51, and son Raphael, 46. He adopted Drena, who is Diahnne's daughter from a previous relationship. He has twin sons Julian and Aaron, 27, son Elliot, 24, and daughter Helen Grace, 11, with his second ex-wife, Grace Hightower. While he insisted that he is "good" with raising a baby again so much later in life, he admitted that it "never gets easier" the seventh time around.
