AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise and Jenna Ortega were among winners at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which was not held live due to the WGA strike. They took home one award each at the pre-taped ceremony which aired on Sunday night, May 7.

Cruise bagged a Golden Popcorn for Best Performance in a Movie Winner for his stunts in "Top Gun: Maverick". Sending a message from a flying jet, he credited his fans as his motivation to do the death-defying actions.

"Hi, everyone! Thank you so much for this award. I make these sails for you," he said from the plane. "I love you. I love entertaining you. You know how much you enjoy it. How about you appreciate it. There's just no better feeling."

The 60-year-old didn't forget to promote his upcoming movie as he continued, "And I hope you enjoy 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One'. It'll be coming out July. It is a wild ride. You have a wonderful summer." He concluded, "Thank you again for letting me entertain you. It's an absolute privilege. We'll see you at the movies."

Ortega, meanwhile, was awarded with Best Performance in a Show for her role on Netflix's series "Wednesday".

Leading in terms of number were "Scream VI" in the movie field and "The Last of Us" among all TV winners. The scary movie nabbed two awards, including the coveted Best Movie and Best Fight for Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) vs Ghostface scene.

Speaking on behalf of the movie, Ghostface appeared in a video message and bragged about "the villain" coming "out on top." He said in the clip, "Here's a twist you didn't see coming. The villain comes out on top. To all the fans who voted, you finally answered my question."

Pedro Pascal also filmed a video message to thank fans for the three Golden Popcorns that the show received, for Best Show, Best Hero and Best Duo. "Thank you, MTV Movie & TV Awards. I am accepting these Golden Popcorns on behalf of 'The Last of Us' show creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann and our entire amazing cast and crew from the U.S. and from Canada, who worked tirelessly and passionately to make the show," he said while dressing casually in a yellow T-shirt. "They made it a family experience, one of the best experiences of my life."

The actor also showed his support for striking writers as he continued, "Craig and Neil can't be here. We are all thanking HBO, and Naughty Dog, and standing in solidarity with the WGA that is fighting very hard for fair wages. We thank you. We love you. I'm going to take these to bed with me."

Drew Barrymore won Best Host for her eponymous talk show despite stepping down as host for the MTV Movie & TV Awards in support of the writer strike. "Hello, hello. Thank you so much. I can't believe this. Thank you for letting me in, get eyeball to eyeball," she said in a video message which appeared to be filmed in a bathroom. "Thank you for this whole show, this whole world, being.... Thank you, thank you so much. Oh my goodness."

The actress-turned-TV host also gave a shout-out to her show's writers as saying, "And also, I want to thank Chelsea White, Cristina Kinon and Liz Koe, our amazing, amazing writers. And this is definitely for them and every single person who makes this show. There's no I in mine, just ours and we. Thank you from us and me."

Selena Gomez's new documentary "Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me" was named Best Music Documentary as Taylor Swift's "Carolina" from "Where the Crawdads Sing" was voted as Best Song. Other winners included "The Kardashians", Adam Sandler, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Coolidge and "Vanderpump Rules" stars Ariana Madix, Katie Maloney, Scheana Shay and LaLa Kent.
