AceShowbiz - Sam Smith continues to ignite more controversy. The "Unholy" hitmaker, who recently landed in hot water over their satanic-themed Grammys performance, has received harsh criticism as they posed in corsets for Perfect Magazine photo shoot.
On Tuesday, February 28, the 30-year-old English crooner turned to their Instagram account to share a series of snapshots taken for the magazine's Issue 4. In the pictures, they could be seen wearing corsets with strings wrapped around their arm and torso. One of the images also showed him in a denim mini skirt/underwear outfit, which garnered a lot of attention on Twitter.
Reacting to the photographs, one critic tweeted, "Disgusting is a better description." Another chimed in, "This is the weirdest thing I've seen in a while." Someone else quipped, "If I was Satan I would be extremely embarrassed that Sam Smith was worshiping me."
Others, in the meantime, defended Sam for "living their truth." One fan wrote via Twitter, "y'all are just fatphobic and annoying about it." A different person added, "I know these pictures are a lot for some but something should be said for Sam doing it his way. I recall reading he was starving himself and unhappy. Why? All so that he could fit the mold of the perfect pop star. I applaud him for living in his truth."
The controversy over the shoot came only a few weeks following their hell-themed Grammys performance featuring their "Unholy" collaborator Kim Petras. Some viewers likened the extravagant performance to "devil worshipping," while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz denounced the production as "evil."
Amid the intense social media backlash, Sam was even called "demonic" in public by an elderly woman. The video, which emerged online on February 15, saw the "Stay With Me" crooner walking casually in the streets of New York. Then suddenly, an elderly woman began shouting at them, "You belong in hell! Sam Smith belongs in hell! You demonic, twisted sick bastard! Sam Smith is a pedophile! You sick motherf**ker Sam Smith!"
