In a new interview, the actor, who played Duke Simon Basset on the hit Netflix series, shares that the reason for his shocking departure from the show is not a complicated matter.

AceShowbiz - Rege-Jean Page opened up more about his shocking decision to leave "Bridgerton" after just one season. In a new interview, the actor, who played Duke Simon Basset on the hit Netflix series, revealed that the reason for his departure was not a complicated matter.

"I signed up to do a job and I did the job and then I did some other jobs," he told Vanity Fair for their Hollywood Issue cover story. "That's it. That's the story. I wish it was more glamorous than that."

The British star went on to say, "We finished the story. The temptation would be to roll with the distractions and go, 'Oh, well, the story went really well so we can kind of change this up and make some other stuff up, I guess.' That was never what we'd signed up to do."

Rege-Jean continued, "It's overnight for everyone else, nothing changes for me. When it's tough, when no one wants you in the room, when you've got to fight to bust down the door-you do the work, you turn up. It works or it doesn't." He added, "The trick is to make sure that you focus on your job as hard as you did when you were struggling to get to do your job."

During the interview, the actor also discussed his next plan while addressing rumors that he will star in the new James Bond movie. "It's a conversation people are having, and it's terribly flattering that they're having it," "The Gray Man" star said. "I leave them to it."

"It's not a thing that is fully occupying my thoughts," he continued. "I've got enough on my plate at the moment. I worry about the work I have, not other people's jobs."

Meanwhile, Rege-Jean's on-screen lover Phoebe Dynevor recently confirmed that she won't return for season 3 of "Bridgerton". While attending the Sundance Film Festival on January 28, the actress was asked about "any exciting dynamics coming up for Daphne in 'Bridgerton' season 3." In response, "The Colour Room" star said, "Sadly not in season 3. Potentially in the future. But season 3, I'm just excited to watch as a viewer."
