AceShowbiz - Comedian Ricky Gervais trolled Sam Smith over their outfit at the 2023 BRIT Awards, which took place on Saturday, February 11 in London. While attending the awards-giving event, the "Unholy" hitmaker turned heads as they donned a black latex inflatable jumpsuit featuring high rounded shoulders with balloon-like sleeves and legs.

In response to the ensemble, which was designed by British designer HARRI, Ricky took to his Twitter account to mock the non-binary singer. He Photoshopped a picture of himself wearing the outfit while writing in the caption, "The worst thing about being famous is the lack of privacy. I can't even walk down the street without people looking and pointing."

Fans, meanwhile, had mixed opinions upon seeing the comedian's dig at the "I'm Not the Only One" singer. Some fans found it funny with one saying, "Good morning… a laugh to kick off the week…." Another fan added, "After I saw this, I had to follow Ricky. No ifs or buts about it!"

However, some others appeared to think that the mockery wasn't necessary. "I must say, much as this guy isn't my cup of tea, it doesn't bother me what he's up to. In fact, i only see things about him from older men who seem increasingly upset about what younger generations are doing. This stuff happened in your generation too. You do know that, grandpa?" one user replied to Ricky, who replied, "Bit ageist."

"Welcome to the heteronormative group of now officially old aged men, Ricky Gervais. You now belong to the [Piers Morgan] of the world in your glee of #SamSmith and his costume. Bowie would be proud," another fan added, referring to late singer David Bowie, who wore a similar outfit in the 70s.

Sam's outfit was said to take 4 days to make. British Indian designer Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai, who helmed HARRI, claimed that it was one of his most ambitious garments to date. He revealed that the undulating shapes were originally inspired by his dog, Kai.

"I started thinking about (it) from my dog's point of view," he said in an interview with the British talk show "Good Morning Britain". "How we saw me from such a small, short angle. (Like a) distorted body image."
