There have been countless iconic celebrity hair transformations to celebrate the new year. In January, several Hollywood stars were seen proudly flaunting their brand-new hairstyles, from spicy new colors to super edgy cuts. Check out the list of stars who have stunning hair transformations in 2023 so far.
1. Kaley Cuoco
Kaley Cuoco has decided to ditch her signature blonde hair for a brand-new shade. The Penny depicter on "The Big Bang Theory" debuted her new brunette hair at the 2023 Golden Globes. However, that wasn't the only trait that had changed with her as she also showed off her growing baby bump when posing for photos on the red carpet. She is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Tom Pelphrey.
"The Flight Attendant" actress' hair stylist, Christine Symonds, explained to Us Weekly how she wanted to make sure the Golden Globe nominee's hair was styled to complement the beautiful lavender gown she wore for the evening. "The dress was ethereal and had the most beautiful bows and jewels on the straps, so we knew we wanted the hair up to not distract from the simple elegance of the dress," Christine shared.
2. Idina Menzel
Idina Menzel wants to start 2023 with a fresh new look. The Broadway actress chopped off her long dark hair for a cute new bob haircut. The 51-year-old star debuted her transformative chin-length bob on Instagram on January 17.
"So this happened today," Idina captioned her Instagram Reel along with an emoji of a woman getting a haircut. In the video, the "Disenchanted" actress could be seen smiling, looking at the camera and showing off different angles of her hair while Lizzo's hit song "Scuse Me" played in the background.
3. Shawn Mendes
There's no hair holding Shawn Mendes back, definitely. The 24-year-old Canadian singer shocked fans earlier this month after he cut off his signature brunette curls and debuted a brand-new buzz cut.
The new 'do is new territory for Shawn, who has rocked some iteration of a medium-length, thick curly hairstyle for the duration of his career. At times, it's been shorter, at times it's been something of a quarantine man bun, but it's never been totally gone until now.
4. Raven-Symone
Raven-Symone is never scared to go bold. The "Raven's Home" actress showcased her unique hairdo, polka-dot buzz cut, when attending Netflix's premiere of "You People" in Los Angeles on January 17 alongside her wife, Miranda Maday.
The 37-year-old actress' look featured scarlet, bubblegum, purple and navy dots painted all over her head. At the base of her buzz cut, the star also sported a heart shape which was spray-painted in bright pink.
5. Ciara
Any hair color looks good on Ciara, but platinum blonde gives a whole different vibe. The 37-year-old singer decided to move on from ash blonde balayage hair to platinum blonde to ring in the new year.
To mark the new beginning, Ciara chopped several inches off her previously lengthy butterfly cut and dyed her hair silver platinum. The "Get Up" singer first debuted her new 'do on Instagram on January 12. At the time, she posted BTS footage from her latest photo shoot that saw her fiercely posing with her new locks. The mom of three, who's married to NFL star Russell Wilson, captioned the post, "'Vroom Vroom."
6. Brad Pitt
Also marking the new year with a new hairstyle is Brad Pitt. The "Bullet Train" actor showed off his heartthrob new hair 'do that made him look years younger when attending the 2023 Golden Globes.
After more than a year of rocking slightly overgrown blonde lengths designed to be casually combed back, the "Babylon" star marked his red carpet kickoff with a coiffed crew cut featuring some lighter blonde highlights. Social media took note of his cut, with one fan tweeting, "Shout out to Brad Pitt's beauty team. The makeup is right, the hair looks good, and the fillers are filling!"
7. Julia Garner
Julia Garner said hello to the new year by bidding farewell to her ringlets. On the 2023 Golden Globes red carpet, the "Ozark" and "Inventing Anna" actress debuted an edgy razor pixie cut.
Julia's new hair was styled by celebrity hairstylist Bobby Eliot. In an interview, Bobby said that he wanted the 28-year-old actress' hair to feel "just as easy and modern" as he described her pink dress as "a breath of fresh air."
8. Usher
Usher can pull off any look as the Grammy-award winning artist set the front row of Paris Fashion Week ablaze with his bright orange hair. The 44-year-old musician debuted his new fiery 'do in attendance at the Wales Bonner runway show on Tuesday, January 17. Upon closer inspection, the iconic singer opted for a slight ombre effect as the top flaunted a sunset-hued darker orange, whereas the bottom boasted a more true sunshine-tinted shade.
However, after debuting his new 'do, fellow rapper Joyner Lucas wasted no time in clowning the hitmaker's fluorescent fade. "My n***a lookin like a flaming hot Cheeto #legend," Joyner commented on The Shade Room's post with a crying face emoji.
9. Lily James
Lily James is bringing back the "bombshell '90s twist" in 2023. The "Pam & Tommy" actress joined Kaley Cuoco, Brad Pitt and Julia Garner in stepping out for the 2023 Golden Globes with a new year, new hairdo.
The 33-year-old actress ditched her light brown layers for a sophisticated dark brown bob, which her hairstylist Halley Brisker styled with a "bombshell '90s twist." According to Halley, he utilized Great Lengths Hair Tape Extensions to boost volume at the front of her hair, around her face and to "really max out that flick."
10. Hailey Bieber
Hailey Bieber (Hailey Baldwin) sent her fans into a frenzy as she started her new era with the debut of her shortest hair in years. The wife of Justin Bieber opted to cut off her signature long gold-tinged brunette hair.
On January 22, Hailey surprised her fans by revealing her brand-new chin-grazing bob on TikTok. A few days later, the model turned to her Instagram account to share a closer look at her new hair from different angles. The first is a side profile where her short caramel-brown hair is tucked behind her ears. The second and last picture gives an even clearer view of the blunt cut from the side. In the last flick, fans can see her darker brown roots fading into a warm medium brown.
11. Lizzo
Only a couple of days after Hailey Baldwin debuted her new bob haircut, Lizzo joined the short hair trend. The "About Damn Time" singer switched up her signature waist-length tresses for a much shorter 'do, a shaggy bob. Interestingly, that wasn't the only drastic change she made as she also debuted wispy bangs and blonde highlights.
On January 24, Lizzo shared several sexy selfies of her transformation on Instagram. In the note accompanying the post, the 34-year-old chart-topping singer excitedly wrote, "ITS GIVING BOBBIANA."
