The 'About Damn Time' hitmaker is honored with The People's Champion Award and decides to share the award with 17 activists whom she brings to the stage at the annual award-giving event.

AceShowbiz - Lizzo was among the honorees at the 2022 People's Choice Awards on Tuesday, December 6. The "About Damn Time" hitmaker received The People's Champion Award and decided to share the award with 17 activists whom she brought to the stage.

"I am here tonight, because to be an icon isn't about how long you have had your platform," Lizzo said during her speech before initially revealing that she was hesitant to accept the award because she didn't "need a trophy for championing people."

The "Truth Hurts" singer continued, "Being an icon is what you do with that platform. Ever since the beginning of my career, I have used my platform to amplify marginalized voices, so tonight I am sharing this honor."

Among those who joined Lizzo onstage that night were Breonna Taylor's mother, Tamika Palmer who has sought justice for her daughter's 2020 murder, Mari Copeny a.k.a. "Little Miss Flint" who has been raising awareness toward the water crisis in Flint, Mich., Shirley Raines who is nationally recognized for providing unhoused people in Los Angeles' Skid Row with essential resources, as well as Maggie Mireles Thomas who is the sister to teacher Eva Mireles who was killed in the Robb Elementary shooting in Uvalde, Texas this year.

Activists Yasmine Aker, Emiliana Guereca, Esther Young Lim, Felicia "Fe" Montes, Jayla Rose Sullivan, Kara Roselle Smith, Amelia Bonow, Odilia Romero, Rabbi Tarlan Rabizadeh, Sahar Pirzada, Chandi Moore, Crystal Echo Hawk and Reshma Saujani were also invited to the stage. "Give them their flowers. Power will always be to the people," Lizzo said.

Internet users quickly applauded Lizzo for it and congratulated her for the well-deserved award. "An icon doesn't have to be a philanthropist," one fan gushed. "She's truly a gem," another fan added, whole another comment read, "They all look beautiful. This was well presented."

That wasn't the only trophy that the three-time Grammy winner took home at the 2022 People's Choice Awards. The "Juice" singer came out victorious at The Song of 2022 with her smash hit "About Damn Time".

Lizzo is halfway to EGOT status. She has collected Grammy Awards and won Outstanding Achievement in a Competition Program at the 2022 Emmys, thanks to "Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls".

In an emotional speech, she reflected on what the prize meant for her and her team. "I'm very emotional, and the trophy is nice but my emotion is for these people who are on the stage with me," she opened up. "The stories that they shared, they're not that unique-they just don't get the platform."
