AceShowbiz - Princess Kate Middleton looked gorgeous while arriving at the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony alongside husband Prince William on Friday, December 2. The Duchess of Cambridge also honored Princess Diana by wearing William's late mom's emerald and diamond choker to the star-studded event.
Kate wore the stunning piece after it was last seen being worn by Diana herself in 1993. The emerald choker was originally given to Queen Mary by the Ladies of India in 1911. Queen Elizabeth then gave it to Diana, who later famously wore it as a headband at a 1985 event, after her wedding to Charles.
As for Kate, the new Princess of Wales paired the choker with a bright green dress from Solace London. Following the sustainable fashion theme guidelines for the Earthshot Prize Awards, the royal rented the off-the-shoulder gown from HURR, a rental platform in the U.K. for designer dresses. As for William, he looked dapper in a classic black tux for the ceremony.
The star-studded event celebrated and awarded funding to environmental projects that will better the world for future generations. Among those who were tapped to hand out awards were David Beckham, Catherine O'Hara and Rami Malek. Chloe X Halle offered a performance for the guests at the event with Billie Eilish performing remotely.
Opening the ceremony, William said during his speech, "When I founded this Prize in 2020, it was with the ambition to harness the same spirit of ingenuity, that inspired President John F. Kennedy to challenge the American people to put a person on the moon within a decade. So, it has been an honor to share the stories of our Earthshot winners and finalists from the heart of his hometown."
The Prince of Wales continued, "I believe that the Earthshot solutions you have seen this evening prove we can overcome our planet's greatest challenges, and by supporting and scaling them we can change our future." He added, "Alongside tonight's winners and finalists, and those to be discovered over the years to come, it's my hope the Earthshot legacy will continue to grow, helping our communities and our planet to thrive."
In some pictures taken after the successful ceremony, the royal couple could be seen mingling with the famous guests. At one point, former soccer star David broke the protocol and leaned in to give Kate a kiss on the cheek. One snap also saw William and Kate sharing laugh with Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey before chatting with Ellie Goulding, who sang at their wedding back in 2011.
