The 59-year-old 'Irresistible' director weighs in on Dave's controversial monologue on the NBC sketch show when appearing on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert'.

AceShowbiz - Jon Stewart has come to Dave Chappelle's defense amid backlash over the latter's "Saturday Night Live" monologue. When weighing in on the matter, the "Irresistible" director denied claims about his pal normalizing anti-semitism on the show.

The 59-year-old offered his two cents when appearing on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert". He said, "Everybody calls me like, 'You see Dave on 'SNL'?' And I say yes, we're very good friends. I always watch and send nice texts."

" 'He normalized antisemitism with the monologue.' I don't know if you've been on comment sections on most news articles, but it's pretty normal," he told host Stephen Colbert. "It's incredibly normal. But the one thing I will say is I don't believe that censorship and penalties are the way to end antisemitism or to gain understanding. I don't believe in that. It's the wrong way for us to approach it."

During his monologue, Dave weighed in on Kanye West and Kyrie Irving's anti-Semitic controversies. "I denounce anti-Semitism in all its forms. And I stand with my friends in the Jewish community. And that, Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time," he first said.

"Kanye has gotten in some scraps before and normally when he's in trouble, I pull up immediately. But this time I was like, 'you know what? Lemme see what's gonna happen first,' " the funnyman added. "Kanye got in so much trouble Kyrie got in trouble. Kyrie Irving posted a link of to a movie he seen on Amazon. No caption on the post or nothing like that, but apparently this movie had Anti-Semitic tropes... And the NBA told him he should apologize and he was slow to apologize."

"The list of demands to get back into their good graces got longer and longer and this is where I draw the line. I know the Jewish people have been through terrible things all over the world, but you can't blame that on black Americans," Dave further noted. He also joked that "there are two words in the English language that you should never say together in sequence: 'The' and 'Jews.' "
