AceShowbiz - Rachel Zegler divulged that she had a breast cancer scare when she was 19 years old. When making the revelation on Instagram Story, the "West Side Story" leading lady shared a reminder to her female fans.
When opening up about her "scariest" experience on Saturday, September 24, the actress shared a photo of the scar she had after an outpatient biopsy procedure. "Two years ago I found a lump in my breast and went through what was undoubtedly the scariest week of my life," she began.
"No OB/GYN was taking new patients due to the backlog of the pandemic, but I was fortunate to have the care of my pediatrician who prescribed me an ultrasound, which led to an out-patient biopsy procedure," the 21-year-old beauty added. "Thankfully it was benign."
"And now the scar serves as a reminder to check my breasts regularly for any irregular growth – the fibroadenoma in my left breast is a common occurrence but nevertheless extremely scary to find," the Golden Globe winner continued. "Early detection saves lives!!! Check your titty meat :) love you. x R."
Rachel has been open about her health, both mental and physical. Back in 2018, she wrote on Twitter, "Hello. My name is Rachel. I suffer from anxiety and depression, and occasionally feel depersonalized/disassociated from reality."
"I am a work in progress. I am finding the common ground between me and my mind," the singer further elaborated. "And that's enough. But please, ask if I'm okay. #EndTheStigma."
Health issues aside, Rachel will star in Disney's live-action adaptation of "Snow White" that is set for a March 2024 release. She will also reunite onscreen with her "West Side Story" co-star and real-life boyfriend, Josh Andres Rivera in "The Hunger Games" prequel titled, titled "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes".
