AceShowbiz - "Hellraiser" unlocks the terrors in its first trailer. Courtesy of Hulu, the official sneak peek of the supernatural horror reboot was unleashed on Tuesday, September 20 and gives a look at a twisted reimagining of Clive Barker's cult classic.
The trailer opens with a look at an ancient puzzle box. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Mr. Voight (Goran Visnjic) tells a young man named Joey, who seems drawn toward the box. The young man then picks it up and begins to solve it. When he asks if he will receive a prize if he completes the puzzle, Mr. Voight says, "I do."
As the puzzle snaps the last part of it into place, Joey looks shocked before he begins to convulse on the floor. The puzzle is seen sucking his blood into it.
Later Odessa A'zion's Riley has got her hands on the puzzle. Studying it, she notes that it has "six sides, six configurations" and "it opens up and it cuts you." The video then shows the Cenobites, sadist-loving beings from an alternate dimension who are the series villains, showing up to collect the victims.
Jamie Clayton's Pinhead then arrives, saying, "Great delights await. We wish to see you proceed. Feed it. Their blood. Their pain. All for us." A young woman's body is seen being stretched as she's tied into chains before she's heard screaming.
The official logline of the film reads, "A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension."
Director David Bruckner explains to EW, "It's the tale of a young woman, who's struggling with addiction and compulsive behavior, that comes in contact accidentally with the box and unfortunately begins to dabble with it. And chaos ensues."
The main villain Pinhead was portrayed by Doug Bradley in the original film and its sequels, but it is played by "Sense8" actress Jamie Clayton in the upcoming reboot. Brucker says of casting a trans woman for the role, "We felt a kind of anticipation around the fans to reimagine the character."
He adds, "We knew we wanted Pinhead to be a woman. Jamie was just the right person for the role. A person's identity can be really exciting for a role in many ways, but I have to emphasize that Jamie absolutely killed; that's how we got there."
"Hellraiser" will have its world premiere at Beyond Fest in Santa Monica, California on October 4. The film is scheduled to be released exclusively on Hulu on October 7.
