The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor's appearance at this year's award show involves him floating in MTV's iconic Moonman astronaut outfit and sporting beard-free face.

AceShowbiz - Johnny Depp's MTV Video Music Awards cameo continues facing criticism. After being labeled "disgusting" by his ex-wife Amber Heard's sister, the actor's appearance landed in hot water for alleged edited audience applause.

Attendees at the annual award show claimed the sound of the audience applause during the "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" star's surprise appearance was edited into the broadcast.

"as someone who was there he didn't actually appear to the audience, that was pre-recorded and they edited in the applause. they knew we wouldn't have it," one Twitter user under the username @taylenaroy wrote, responding to a separate tweet from @liliandaisies.

@liliandaisies wrote, "it is disgusting that the VMAs included an abuser and the whole audience clapped while his victim was globally humiliated and now has to see that her former friends and coworkers are cheering for her abuser." As many other users didn't believe that @taylenaroy attended the event, she later posted a photo of her posing next to a huge Moonman statue.

A separate user, @deathefangirl, echoed a similar sentiment that Depp's stunt was actually virtual. "as someone who was also there, there was no hologram! nothing hanging above our heads. just people on stage," she wrote. "i think the segment was prefilmed because it looked like the crowd was empty in the clip."

Reacting to the claims, one person opined, "The fact that the applause was edited in by the network is somehow worse idk why." Someone else added, "I suspected as much! The applause sounds didn't change once Depp's face came on." A third chimed in, "Wow, how embarrassing...even mtv know no one would applaud."

Depp's skit involved him floating in MTV's iconic Moonman astronaut outfit, with the 59-year-old's beard-free face apparently superimposed in the space suit. He said in a voiceover, "I just want you guys to know that I'm available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any old thing you need. And you know what? I needed the work."

His joke was taken as a reference to his claims he struggled to get jobs in Hollywood amid his legal issues with his ex-wife Heard. In another of a few appearances made by Depp at the New Jersey awards, he said, "VMAs let's get back to the f**king music, shall we?"

Also reacting to Depp's TV comeback was Heard's sister Whitney Heard. In an Instagram post, she called out MTV as writing, "@MTV you're disgusting and clearly desperate! I really hope that none of the people that made this call have daughters."

Not stopping there, she turned to her Instagram Story to share another message that read, "I stand with Amber Heard." She added an image that renamed the event the "DVMAs," in an apparent reference to domestic violence.
