The Seattle-born rapper, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, releases the new track five years after he unleashed his last studio album, 'Gemini'.

AceShowbiz - Macklemore is back with new music. On Friday, July 22, the Grammy-winning rapper released his first single of 2022 called "Chant" featuring Tones and I along with a black-and-white music video.

Co-directed by Macklemore and Jake Magraw, the clip opens with the emcee popping out of a misty lake. The 39-year-old continues delivering his braggadocious bars on a basketball court, inside a church with a choir and in the middle of a crowd under the rain.

Reflecting on his success, Macklemore spits, "This is my moment/ They can't take my talent/ They can't take my stripes/ They can't erase my hours." The Seattle hip-hop star goes on, "I'm from the underground, anything above ground is a mountain."

Tones and I then sings in the chorus, "There's no need to cry for me/ I'm a fighter, fighter/ You can't take my voice from me/ I will rise up, rise up/ So what are you waiting for?/ I ain't ready to die yet." The Australian artist continues, "The pain is where faith is born/ Are you alive yet?/ Are you alive yet? Are you alive?"

"Chant" hit streaming services five years after Macklemore dropped his last record "Gemini". During that time, he had a brief relapse after 16 years of sobriety as well as the lingering effects of his split from longtime producer Ryan Lewis. They also faced backlash after beating out Kendrick Lamar for Best Rap Album in 2014.

Speaking about the new track, the emcee, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, told Rolling Stone, "This song is a bit of a rebirth. He added, "I wanted to challenge myself, get through moments of writer's block, and capture the spirit of what it's like to overcome something, push through it, and get up the next day and do it again."
