In a new interview, the one half of duo Chloe x Halle opens up about the journey of writing her first solo album and the message of finding strength and imperfection behind the record.

AceShowbiz - Chloe Bailey is grateful for the existence of music. In a new magazine interview, the one half of duo Chloe x Halle credited music for helping her get through separation anxiety when COVID-19 pandemic kept her apart from her sister Halle Bailey.

The 23-year-old singer opened up about suffering from anxiety and turning to music for healing by declaring, "Music saved me." In an interview with ALLURE, published on Thursday, May 12, she elaborated, "I was at a low moment where I felt lost, like I didn't have any sense of who I was."

Chloe's anxiety crept out after being kept apart from Halle for six months. The "Treat Me" singer was in the U.S., while her younger sister had to stay in London. The latter was also unable to return to the States because the COVID-19 rates were still high at that time.

Their time apart pushed the "Forgive Me" singer to work on her first solo album, featuring singles such as "Have Mercy" and "Treat Me". She also learned that writing songs can be therapeutic since she was able to explore her emotional journey through it.

"In the beginning you can tell that [the person] who is singing is like a bird with broken wings," she explained. "As time went on, you can hear me finding my strength and confidence. I didn't want to lose that story as I pieced the [songs] together."

Elaborating more about the story of her solo album, Chloe revealed that she wanted to share about imperfection. "We're not all supposed to be perfect, like bad b***h and confident all the time. We have different layers, ebbs and flows to our lives," she further divulged.

The singer went on adding, "It would be completely unfair for me to portray myself to the world like I have no problems. Because I do." She wished that after the release of her debut album, people will get to know more about her, not only as an artist, but also as a person.

Elsewhere in the interview, Chloe also revealed about having different layers to herself. "When I'm [not performing], I'm a bubbly, corny, clumsy person. But when the lights turn on, something just happens. I'm somebody else," she stated to the magazine, "I feel like it's not fair for us to say we're only one version of who we are. We all have multiple layers to ourselves."
