The DreamWorks animated heist movie holds onto the top position with only a 33 percent drop from last weekend, while the latest action thriller starring Neeson fails to attract moviegoers.

AceShowbiz - "The Bad Guys" is the still at the heart of most moviegoers in North America this week. The animated crime-comedy film stays on top of the domestic box office on its second weekend.

The DreamWorks Animation pic added an estimated $16.1 million from ticket sales from Friday to Sunday (April 29-May 1), dropping only 30% from last weekend. It has collected $44.4 million domestically for a worldwide gross of $118.7 million so far.

Along with "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", the film, adapted from Aaron Blabey's kids' graphic novel, has helped reignite family moviegoing. The "Sonic the Hedgehog" sequel also maintains its runner-up spot on its fourth weekend, adding an estimated $11.4 million.

Overall it's a quiet weekend at the domestic box office, with the only new wide release this week, "Memory", appearing to have slipped audience's mind. The latest crime thriller starring Liam Neeson misfired with an estimated $3.1 million on its opening weekend. The Martin Campbell-directed pic lands outside the top five at No. 8.

"Neeson's pre-pandemic crime pics did well, including the successful 'Taken' series, but audiences are showing little interest now," David A. Gross, who runs the movie consultancy FranchiseRe, wrote in a newsletter. "Moviegoing activity is improving, but 'Memory', as well as 'Blacklight' and 'The Marksman', are hitting a wall."

The 69-year-old actor was once a dependable box-office force with the "Taken" movie series, which has spawned two sequels and a TV series on NBC starring Clive Standen as a younger Bryan Mills. However, his recent theatrical releases have faltered, with "Blacklight" posting a $3.6 million debut, "Honest Thief" opening to $3.6 million and "The Marksman" making $3.1 million on its first weekend.

"Memory" indeed didn't leave a good impression to critics alike. The movie only holds a 31% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Moviegoers, however, were more appreciative of the film, giving it a 66% positive score, with 49% saying they would definitely recommend it.

Meanwhile, "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" is still at No. 3 with an estimated addition of $8.3 million. "The Northman" also holds onto the fourth place with approximately $6.3 million.

At No. 5 is "Everything Everywhere All at Once" with an estimated $5.5. million. The existential metaverse action comedy starring Michelle Yeoh is surprisingly a strong performer, up 2.2% from last weekend. With $35.5 million in sales so far, the film ranks as one of indie studio A24's biggest hits.
