In an upcoming 'Spring Awakening' documentary, the Rachel Berry depicter on 'Glee' reveals that she confessed her unrequited love to her Broadway musical co-star and had asked him to 'date' her.

AceShowbiz - Lea Michele has always been open about her affection toward Jonathan Groff. The "Glee" star revealed in an upcoming HBO documentary that she was once "so in love" with the "Mindhunter" actor, who has been her best friend for almost two decades, before realizing he is gay.

In "Spring Awakening: Those You've Known", the 35-year-old actress opened up about when she first developed romantic feelings for the 37-year-old actor. When working together in Broadway musical "Spring Awakening" 15 years ago, she "felt like [she] had to take him under [her] wing." However, she confessed, "But then I fell in love with him in more ways than one."

After spending more time together, Lea realized, "I was so in love with him." She then mustered up the courage to tell Jonathan how she felt about him. At one point during her confession, the 35-year-old singer even begged him to be with her. "Finally, I cornered him at a party, and I said to him, 'Why don't you love me? Just love me. Why can't you love me? Date me. Love me,' " she recalled.

Unfortunately, things did not turn out as Lea expected. "And I just saw this look in his eyes, and in that moment, I knew. I realized in that moment, 'This is the end,' " she continued, "And I need to protect this. This is intense. And I never asked him again about his sexuality."

Though so, Lea's friendship with Jonathan grew stronger than ever. "I think he felt safe with me because he knew that I knew and that we could be best friends, and our relationship just grew and grew to the point that we would do the show and then we would go home together," the actress explained, "That's why Jonathan and I became so close. We were so intertwined."

Jonathan also offered his side of the story when discussing about his relationship with Lea. "Lea and I, we were grasping onto each other, we were really in love," he acknowledged. However, he was learning to accept his sexual identity. "Coming from a religious background surrounded by the Amish, I felt… ashamed of who I was. I guess I was also afraid that if people knew who I was, they wouldn't find what I was doing believable," he divulged.

Jonathan then explained that he and Lea met when they were still really young. "We were still figuring out who we were. We were playing these parts, but we were working s**t out with each other," he pointed out.
