The comedienne and TV host shares that she forgives the 'King Richard' actor after he slapped Chris Rock at the event over a joke, adding that, 'he did the right thing with that Instagram statement.'

AceShowbiz - Nikki Glaser weighed in on the drama involving Will Smith and Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. In an interview with Us Weekly, the comedienne reveals how she's feeling about the whole thing while reflecting on her career as a stand-up comedian.

"I accept Will Smith's apology, not on behalf of Chris Rock, but for him," the 37-year-old said while promoting her new show "Welcome Home Nikki Glaser?" which premieres on Sunday, May 1. "I can tell that he is ashamed of how he behaved. I trust that he is going through things that we don't understand."

The TV host admitted that she was initially "horrified" by what happened at the award-giving event, where the "King Richard" actor slapped Chris for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head onstage. "[I was] kind of scared for myself in terms of what kind of ideas people might get with copycatting someone who is arguably one of the safest men ever," she said.

Despite that, she revealed that she forgave the "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" alum. "I do think that I forgive him and that he did the right thing with that Instagram statement. I am ready to accept him back into the world if he shows that he has grown from it."

While Nikki is forgiving, Chris' mother is apparently still not be able to forgive Will just yet. During her appearance on South Carolina's WISTV, Rose Rock said, "When Will slapped Chris, he slapped all of us, but he really slapped me. When you hurt my child, you hurt me."

"I have no idea what I would say other than, what in the world were you thinking?" she argued. "You did a slap, but so many things could have happened from that. Chris could have stepped back and fallen. You really could have gotten taken out in handcuffs."

Rose angrily added, "You didn't think. You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye and you went up and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when it happened." She also noted that Chris was "happy" to present the Best Documentary Feature award to Questlove, but unfortunately the moment was overshadowed by the slap incident. "No one even heard his speech," she said. "No one was able to just be in the moment because everyone was sitting there like, 'what just happened?' "
