When revealing her breakup live on 'Today', the TV personality shares that she and her ex are going to start this new year on their 'new path as loving parents' to their adopted daughters.

AceShowbiz - Hoda Kotb has revealed that she decided to go separate ways with her fiance Joel Schiffman. When announcing her split, the "Today" host said that she believes she and her longtime beau are "better as friends and parents."

In the Monday, January 31 episode of "Today with Hoda & Jenna", the 57-year-old TV hostess told the viewers why she hadn't been wearing her engagement ring. "Joel and I have had a lot of prayerful and meaningful conversations over the holidays and we decided that we're better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple," she said.

"So we decided we are going to start this new year ... on our new path as loving parents to our adorable, delightful children, and as friends," Hoda continued. She went on to stress that "it's not like something happened" in her relationship.

Hoda explained, "They say sometimes relationships are meant to be there for a reason, or a season or for a lifetime." She told her co-host, Jenna Bush Hager, "And I feel like ours was meant to be there for a season."

During the conversation, however, Hoda focused on the "joyous moments" of her relationship with Joel. The longtime television journalist also gushed over Joel, "He's a great guy. He's a very kind and loving person, and I feel privileged to have spent eight years with him. We are both good and we are both kind of going on our way and our path. We'll be good parents to those two lovely kids."

In response, Jenna praised Hoda for being courageous for telling "the truth." Hoda then replied, "There's nothing that relieves your soul more, I think, than when you tell the truth," Then Jenna added, "You always say it's how we begin something and how we end it."

Aside from Jenna, the former "Today" show co-anchor Kathie Lee Gifford also showed some support. "My darling Hoda, I am truly so proud of the way you have handled a very difficult and painful decision," Kathie wrote in the comment section of the show's Instagram post about the pair's breakup.

"As usual you did it with grace and kindness," Kathie added. She concluded her loving message, saying, "May God bless you and your precious girls and Joel as well as you continue down this thing called life. I love you."

Hoda and Joel announced their engagement in November 2019. The exes, who share two adopted daughters, 4-year-old Hayley Joy and 2-year-old Hope Catherine, initially planned to get married in November 2020, but they put the wedding plans on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
