The popular folk singer passed away at the age of 57 after contracting the virus from her son and her husband, who are fully immunized, in an attempt to get a recovery pass to access certain venues.

AceShowbiz - Czech singer Hanka Horka, who was opposed to having a COVID-19 vaccine, has passed away after deliberately contracting the virus. The popular folk singer died on Sunday, January 16 at the age of 57, according to her son Jan Rek.

Hanka's son told Prima News his mother intentionally caught the virus so she could get a recovery pass to access certain venues. Jan said his mother deliberately spent time with him and his father, who are fully immunized but still contracted the virus over the holidays.

"I came here because the debate is very important and I want to warn people," said Jan. "My mom wanted to get sick so she gets the COVID pass. She said to me and even publicly she wants to get infected so she is done with COVID."

In the Czech Republic, proof of vaccination or recovery from infection is needed to enter dining and leisure spaces. "She should have isolated for a week because we tested positive. But she was with us the whole time," Jan added of his mother's deliberate exposure to the virus.

Two days before she died, Hanka of the folk band Asonance informed her fans on social media that she had "survived" the virus. "I'll tell you my secret, yes, I endured, and I survived … however, it was very colorful," she wrote. "Life is here for me and for you too." She added that she was looking forward to trips to the theater, the sauna, concerts and the sea.

On the morning of her passing, Hanka felt better and dressed to go for a walk. But her back began hurting, so she went to lie down in her bedroom. "In about 10 minutes it was all over," her son said. "She choked to death."

Jan said although his mother was unvaccinated, she did not believe in some of the more bizarre conspiracy theories about COVID vaccines. "It wasn't somehow extreme at home. She was always open to a choice and wasn't extremely against vaccination," Jan said of his mother, whom he said was getting incorrect information about the virus "from her social circle."

"She was living by even at times unrelated information concerning health in general but there has always been this underlying thought that nature will take care of everything and only we know ourselves the best," he said. He added, "Her philosophy was that she was more OK with the idea of catching COVID than getting vaccinated. Not that we would get microchipped or anything like that."

The Czech Republic reported a record number of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. On the same day, the government withdrew a vaccine mandate for seniors and many first responders following protests in Prague and other cities.
