The actress, who plays stay-at-home mom Shauna on the Showtime series, reveals in a new interview that one of her co-stars even writes a letter to the producers on her behalf.

AceShowbiz - "Yellowjackets" stars have Melanie Lynskey's back. The actress, who plays frustrated stay-at-home mom Shauna on the Showtime series, revealed in a new interview that her co-stars came to her defense when she faced body-shaming on the set of the show.
Melanie alleged in an interview with Rolling Stone that a member of the production allegedly criticized her physical appearance. "They were asking me, 'What do you plan to do? I'm sure the producers will get you a trainer. They'd love to help you with this,' " she shared.
However, her co-stars, including Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress, were having none of it. Melanie said that they rallied around her in support with Juliette even writing a letter to the producers on Melanie's behalf.
Additionally, Melanie discussed viewers who were questioning the legitimacy of a storyline involving Shauna hooking up with a younger man, mysterious, curly-haired artist Adam (Peter Gadiot). "I'm just like, 'Wow, really? That's where people's heads are at, that the most important thing is being thin or young?' " the 41-year-old New Zealand native wondered.
Melanie further divulged that she found the criticism of her character appalling as she's supposed to look like a "real woman" which is rare to be seen in Hollywood TV shows or movies. "It was really important to me for [Shauna] to not ever comment on my body, to not have me putting a dress on and being like, 'I wish I looked a bit better,' " the actress explained.
She continued, "I did find it important that this character is just comfortable and sexual and not thinking or talking about it, because I want women to be able to watch it and be like, 'Wow, she looks like me and nobody's saying she's the fat one.' That representation is important."
