After the 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' star expressed interest in hosting the Academy Awards, the AMPAS has reportedly reached out to the British actor to explore that possibility.

AceShowbiz - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is bringing back its annual ceremony to normal. After going without a host for the last three years, the 2022 Academy Awards will be overseen by one person.

"You heard it here first," Craig Erwich, president Hulu Originals & ABC Entertainment, said during ABC's portion of the Television Critics Association virtual press tour on Tuesday, January 11.

The Academy has not announced who will be the host yet, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland has been asked about the gig. The Academy has reportedly reached out to the British actor after he expressed interest in hosting the Oscars.

The 25-year-old star, who recently reprised his role as Peter Parker in Sony/Marvel's "Spider-Man: No Way Home", said in a December interview with THR that he would be open to hosting the Academy Awards in the future, if his schedule allows.

"And you know I would love to do that - I love that kind of thing, I love being put under pressure and doing things that I feel uncomfortable doing," he told the outlet. "So I'm interested in it, but I just don't have the time."

"Maybe in the future, but in all honesty, I'm just too busy right now. I don't have the time," the "Chaos Walking" star stressed. He went on pointing out what's on his plate, "I've got an 'Uncharted' press tour to do, and then I start shooting in early March for this TV show [Apple TV+'s 'The Crowded Room'] which is going to take up a lot of my time and is definitely the hardest role I've ever taken on. So maybe one day in the future. But no, not right now."

The last time the Oscars was held with a host was in 2018, with Jimmy Kimmel taking the duty for the second year in a row after hosting the 2017 ceremony. Kevin Hart was tapped to host the 2019 show, but he stepped down within days of being booked after he was engulfed in controversy regarding his past homophobic tweets.

The 2022 Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on March 27 and air on ABC.
