The 'Heart Attack' hitmaker has changed their stance about 'California sober' after previously defending themselves for continuing to dabble with weed and alcohol after near-fatal overdose.

AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato has had a change of heart when it comes to sobriety. The former Disney darling previously said they still smoked weed and drank alcohol in moderation after a near-fatal drug overdose in 2008. Now they no longer support the lifestyle dubbed "California sober."
On their Instagram Story, the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer informed their online followers, "I no longer support my 'California sober' ways." Without explaining what made them change their stance, the former "Camp Rock" actress added, "Sober sober is the only way to be."
Demi's abrupt post came only a few days after fellow Disney alum Selena Gomez came under fire for joking about drinking after receiving a kidney transplant from her friend.
The "Cool for the Summer" hitmaker also drew mixed reactions when they first announced their "California sober" approach. Lala Kent was among the critics as the "Vanderpump Rules" star described the lifestyle offensive and disrespectful.
"To hear someone say, 'I'm California sober,' it doesn't sit right with me," said the reality TV star who also struggled with addictions. "The smallest amount of anything could potentially -- you could fall off the wagon. So for me, I just think … just don't disrespect people who work really hard to never pick up anything and remain in their right frame of mind at all times."
Demi, however, defended decision not to be fully sober. "It's an alternate path to the recovery that I've been taught... the past 10 years of dealing with this stuff," the star defiantly said back then. "It's not saying that this works for everybody, but it's saying that that other solution isn't a one-size-fits-all solution and there's options."
Demi also insisted, "I didn't make up this term (California sober), right? I just heard it, and was like, 'Oh, that sounds green and applies to me.' "
