The 'Good Morning America' anchor has been scheduled to join the Blue Origin crew members for the upcoming commercial spaceflight next month on December 9.

AceShowbiz - U.S. TV favourite Michael Strahan has been selected as the latest celebrity to blast off on the next Blue Origin spaceflight.

The "Good Morning America" co-anchor, who announced the big news on the show on Tuesday, will follow William Shatner, who became the oldest person ever to go into space when he reached for the stars during an 11-minute mission last month (Oct21).

The flight is scheduled to take place on 9 December (21).

"I believe that this is the way of being innovative, creative, pioneers in aviation, now space travel," Strahan said. "And it's going to take a while but I do believe that it will bring a lot of technological breakthroughs and also innovations to us here on Earth, and I just want to be a part of it."

Strahan will be joined by Laura Shepard-Churchley, the daughter of the first American in space, Alan Shepard, and four other passengers, including the first father and son pair, Lane and Cameron Bess.

William Shatner previously received mixed responses for his space travel.

Prince William insisted saving planet Earth was more important than space tourism. Joan Collins called the "Star Trek" actor "a fool" for promoting the commercial space flight while Brian Cox described it as "ridiculous" and George Takei dubbed his former co-star an "unfit guinea pig."

But Shatner defended the commercial space exploration, saying it was a "baby step" to getting "polluting industries … off of Earth."

Following the criticisms, Blue Origin boss Jeff Bezos met with Prince William's father Prince Charles and then pledged $1 billion for land restoration in Africa.
