AceShowbiz - Michael Strahan, the beloved "Good Morning America" anchor, has officially become a grandpa! The exciting news was announced during the Fox NFL Sunday show on September 22, with Strahan revealing that his eldest daughter, Tanita, gave birth to a baby boy named Onyx.
Despite sharing this heartfelt news with the public, the athlete-turned-presenter kept additional details about baby Onyx remain under wraps.
Tanita, who is 32 years old, has kept her pregnancy private, with her most recent Instagram post dating back to October 2023. As a Los Angeles-based illustrator and Michael's oldest child, Tanita has led a life away from the public eye.
Born in Germany, Tanita lived in Houston, Texas, until her parents' divorce, after which she returned to Germany with her mother, Wanda Hutchins. Tanita spoke to PEOPLE in 2016 about her upbringing in Germany, describing how it influenced her laidback personality and disinterest in the celebrity culture.
"I've never been the type of person to be starstruck. Growing up in Germany, no one cared about stuff like that," she remarked.
Tanita later moved back to the United States for high school, eventually pursuing a degree in design and visual communication at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Her father, Michael, often praises her, highlighting her strong yet quiet personality.
In a 2013 interview with New York Family, he said, "Tanita is kind of like me in the sense that she has a very strong personality, but a silent strong personality. She's not going to be one to walk into a room and make it all about her. She definitely has an opinion and she's very smart and she knows what she wants, which I love about her."
Besides Tanita, Michael shares son Michael Strahan Jr., 29, with Hutchins, and twin daughters Isabella and Sophia, 19, with his second wife, Jean Muggli. Michael frequently acknowledges the importance of family in his life. In a 2016 PEOPLE interview, he mentioned, "To me it's all about family, now more than anything." The "Good Morning America" host often credits his kids as his source of strength.
The arrival of Tanita's baby means a double joy for the family because Isabella Strahan has also just celebrated an important event in her life: completing her cancer treatment.
As Tanita embarks on this new chapter of motherhood, Michael and his family celebrate the newest addition, cherishing their close-knit bond.
