In his opening monologue for his SNL debut, the 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' star shows gratitude for his successful year, thanks to the Marvel blockbuster.

AceShowbiz - "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" star Simu Liu made his debut as "Saturday Night Live" host in the November 20 episode. In his opening monologue, the 32-year-old showed gratitude for his successful year, thanks to the Marvel blockbuster.

He recalled, "Back in 2014, and this is a true story, I tweeted, 'Hey, Marvel, great job with Captain America and Thor. Now, how about an Asian superhero?' And at the time, I think the tweet got like 10 likes, which was like 10 more than I usually got." He continued, "But I worked hard and five years later, Marvel did make their first Asian superhero movie, and after I got the part, I went online and tweeted, 'Thanks for getting back to me.' "

Liu also talked about his past gig where he dressed up as Spider-Man for kids' birthday parties. "I really can't believe my life right now because 10 years ago I actually had a job dressing up as Spider-Man for kids' birthday parties, which meant parents would pay me to entertain their kids while they were day drinking," the actor shared.

He also talked about his not-so pleasant experience on a boy named Trevor's birthday party. "I don't want to say anything bad about him, but let's just say he was a real Trevor," he recounted. "He kept kicking my shins and screaming, 'You're not Spider-Man! You're not Spider-Man!' And look, I don't know if you've ever been kicked by a 7-year-old wearing a $30 Walmart Spider-Man suit, but it will break you. It will break your spirit."

"But it also lit a fire under me. And I don't know where he is now, but Trevor, if you're watching, I just want to say, you were right. I'm not Spider-Man. I'm Shang-Chi, b***h!" he added.

In one of the skits for the episode, which saw Saweetie as the musical guest, Liu was seen fighting with his fellow Canadian-Asian actor Bowen Yang. As they raise a lot of things in common, they two were competed to be the "first Asian" in everything. Yang showed up with a framed dressing room article touting his role as "First Fully Asian Cast Member on SNL". Meanwhile, Liu brought a magazine proclaiming him as the "First Asian Marvel Lead."

While the two stars said it wasn't really a big deal, they continued to name awards they had been receiving for being the "first Asian" in various fields. Yang said he was the first fully gay Asian cast member to mispronounce a particular word. Lie shared he was the first Asian snapped being super-casual while hurtling down Splash Mountain.

Eventually, Yang told Liu, "Congratulations. But just remember, Simu-whatever first thing you do, I'll always be gay."
