Before departing the girl group, the 'Boyz' songstress has reportedly been warned by her former bandmates about blackfishing as well as her 'excessive tanning and wearing braids.'

AceShowbiz - Jesy Nelson appeared to ignore her former Little Mix bandmates' advice about her appearance. The singer had reportedly been warned by Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall about blackfishing before sparking controversy over her music video for her debut solo single "Boyz".

"Everyone had been very supportive to Jesy. Leigh-Anne and others sat down with Jesy years ago and spoke to her about blackfishing and warned her about her excessive tanning and wearing braids," a source told Daily Mail on Wednesday, October 13. The source added, "The word 'blackfishing' may not have been used but the principle of it was. But Jesy didn't want to hear it. She just didn't want to know. It's not new news to her."

The so-called inside source continued, "Those around her have been supporting her for ten years and protected her and are devastated over all this." The insider went on to defend Leigh-Anne, "It's not fair to criticize Leigh-Anne over this. She was just upset as were others over blackfishing, and social media is awash with it."

The informant also claimed that Jesy quit Little Mix without telling her band first and "created this scenario." The insider added, "She left the band without telling the girls or management directly and they heard about it through her lawyers."

More recently, a separate source claimed that Jesy was left "devastated" and shocked after viewers of her Instagram livestream with Nicki Minaj, in which Nicki called Leigh-Anne "a jealous clown," bullied Leigh-Anne. The source said, "What should have been a positive and happy celebration has been somewhat tainted by what has started to feel like a personal attack against her."

"It's starting to become a Little Mix vs Jesy storyline, when ultimately the band and Jesy have always stood for women supporting women and so it's a shame to see this taking such a sour turn," the informant added. The insider also said that Jesy's family and friends are "checking in daily."

The source added, "[Jesy] is devastated to have caused any offense and one of the first people she spoke to was Nicki to talk it through." The insider further stressed that "it's been a tough lesson but she wants to continue to learn and grow and she fully understands why this conversation needs to happen."

During the Instagram live, Jesy admitted that her deep tan was brought up by Leigh-Anne on the set of the video for "Sweet Melody", the last single Jesy worked on with the group. She said, "I never ever would want to offend anyone. I just want to spread love and celebrate this, because this is a f**king great song."

"The video is so iconic and I wanted to pay homage to [P. Diddy] as well because that's such an iconic video," Jesy added. "He loved it, he saw the video and he accepted it, he didn't have a problem with it. "

Jesy also defended herself and said that her look was down to tanning easily and having naturally curly hair. The former "The X Factor" winner argued, "I want people to know that when I was in the video with [Nicki], I didn't even have any fake tan on."

"I'd been in Antigua prior to that for three weeks, and I'm just really lucky as a white girl that when I'm in the sun, I tan so dark," Jesy continued explaining. "Leigh-Anne even said to me in the group, 'are you sure you're not mixed race, because you go darker than me in the sun, it's crazy.' "
