Chris Van Dusen reveals in an interview that he and his husband 'had a good cry for about a minute' upon learning the news that the hit Netflix series earns 12 nominations at the 2021 Emmy Awards.

AceShowbiz - "Bridgerton" had a lot of things to celebrate on Tuesday, July 13. The hit Netflix drama earned 12 nominations at the 2021 Emmy Awards and showrunner Chris Van Dusen revealed how he reacted to the big news in addition to building up excitement for upcoming season 2.

Recalling how he found out about the nominations, including nods for its period costumes, casting, cinematography, directing and original music, Van Dusen revealed to E! News, "I was in the car with my husband and we had just dropped our 3-year-old off at nursery." He went on to say they "were driving home when I started getting texts and emails, and we pulled over."

Van Dusen shared that Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington on the show, was the first one to reach out to him. In another interview, Van Dusen told Vanity Fair that he and his husband "had a good cry for about a minute" upon learning the news. "And then we got it together and we're looking forward to celebrating later on," he continued.

Back to his interview with E! News, Van Dusen teased what fans would find in the upcoming season 2, which will follow Anthony Bridgerton's (Jonathan Bailey) romance with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). "I can tell you I just got into the editing bay on the first couple episodes in the second season, and I don't think people are going to be ready," Van Dusen shared.

"I think, honestly, it's everything I think audiences loved so much about the first season, but just more. I think we're going to be back with an even greater escape to 19th century Regency London," he added.

Of the pair's chemistry, the series creator described it as "magnetic." He noted, "You cannot take your eyes off of them when they're together on screen. I can't wait for audiences to see that, or really, to feel that. I'm really excited."

"There's something special about the two of them, Simone and Jonathan, and I think people will really respond to them," he said about the new couple. "I've always wanted [the experience of watching the show] to be similar to the experience of reading one of those romance novels in terms of things feeling really sexy and a little dangerous and fun and it being a bit of a wild ride at times, so I think that will always be a part of the 'Bridgerton' special sauce."
