The disgraced singer is transferred to the Brooklyn jail that is holding Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite who was accused of procuring underage girls for Jeffrey Epstein.

AceShowbiz - R. Kelly will be waiting for his sex-trafficking and racketeering trial in a new place. The disgraced singer, who had been detained in a federal lockup in Chicago, reportedly has been transported to a New York City jail.

The 54-year-old R&B superstar arrived at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday, June 22, according to CNN. It is the same prison where Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite who was accused of procuring underage girls for multimillionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, has been held.

Requesting for Kelly's transfer was U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly. The judge reportedly asked for him to be moved to New York so that they can conduct in-person conflict hearings regarding his attorneys and so that he can meet his attorneys directly.

The conflict hearing arrived after two of Kelly's lawyers Steve Greenberg and Michael Leonard withdrew themselves from his case. Greenberg wrote a letter to Judge Donnelly so that the judge would allow his and Leonard's withdrawal.

"While we recognise that this request comes close to trial - and we are ready to proceed to trial as scheduled in August - our reasons for withdrawal are significant and it is impossible, in our belief, for us to be able to continue to properly represent Mr. Kelly under the current circumstances," so read his plea. "The government was advised of our position and reasons in a phone call."

The "Step In the Name of Love" crooner, however, reportedly has added a New York-based lawyer to his legal team ahead of his trial, which is scheduled to start on August 9. The lawyer would join remaining attorneys on his team, Thomas Farinella, Douglas Anton and Nicole Becker.

Kelly has been behind bars since 2019. He was slapped with charges of sexual exploitation of a child, racketeering, kidnapping, as well as forced labor and bribery.
