Accounts show that the Prince of Wales continued to fund the Sussexes in the months following Megxit, contradicting the Duke's remarks in his Oprah Winfrey interview.

AceShowbiz - Prince Charles continued to financially support his son Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following their royal exit. Contrary to the 36-year-old's claim, his father still bankrolled him and his wife by "a substantial sum" in the months following Megxit.

As reported by Daily Mail, royal accounts, which were made public for the first time on Wednesday, June 23, show that Charles used a Clarence House pot to fund Harry and Meghan for £4.4 million until summer 2020. The couple formally stepped down as senior members of the royal family in January 2020 to start a new life in California.

The record contradicts Harry's remarks during his interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, during which he claimed that his family "literally cut me off financially." To the former daytime talk show queen, he said that he stopped getting financial support from his family in the "first quarter" of last year. To support their financial needs, Harry said he and his wife were forced to live off what "my mother had left me."

The royal accounts, however, do show that there's a significant fall to the sum that the Sussexes received in the year 2020/2021 from 2019/2020. In the earlier year, back when they were still working royals, the couple was transferred £5.6 million from Charles's Duchy of Cornwall income.

Speaking of Charles' expenditure for Harry, a senior Clarence House spokesman said, "As we'll all remember, in January 2020 when the duke and duchess announced that they were going to move away from the working Royal Family, the duke said that they would work towards becoming financially independent. The Prince of Wales allocated a substantial sum to support them with this transition. That funding ceased in the summer of last year. The couple are now financially independent."

The spokesman added, "I betray no confidence when I say they've been very successful in becoming financially independent." When asked on the discrepancy in Harry's remarks, the spokesman tried to keep his opinion neutral as saying, "I wouldn't acknowledge that they are dramatically different. All I can tell you are the facts."
