The 'Tutti Frutti' actor, who also appeared in films including 'Escape to Victory' and 'The Last of the Mohicans', passed away at the age of 83 after a long period of illness.

AceShowbiz - Emma Thompson has paid tribute to her co-star in the cult BBC show "Tutti Frutti", Maurice Roeves, who has died at the age of 83.

Maurice's passing after a long period of illness was announced on Wednesday (July 15) by his agents and his wife Vanessa.

In addition to appearing in films including "Escape to Victory" and "The Last of the Mohicans", the Scottish actor appeared alongside Emma in the 1987 comedy-drama as members of an ailing rock 'n' roll band.

Paying tribute to her "Tutti Frutti" co-star, she tells WENN: "Maurice was such a wonderful actor to work with - and he knocked his role as a sexy washed up rock and roller right out the park. I saw 'Tutti Frutti' recently and marvelled at his acuity and rage and bombast. I'm so sad he's gone."

In what was one of her first major TV roles, Emma played Suzi Kettles, a young woman drafted into the band, The Majestics, alongside frontman Danny McGlone, played by Robbie Coltrane - with Maurice playing guitarist and ageing Vincent Diver.

Although "Tutti Frutti" ran for only one season, it became a cult hit and spawned a stage play, which opened at the National Theatre of Scotland in 2006.
