AceShowbiz - Rapper YNW Melly and his legal team have been trying to get an early release from prison as he tested positive for Coronavirus. Now that his co-defendant YNW Bortlen was granted $75,000 bond and house arrest, fans of the rapper were convinced Melly would be released anytime soon.

Bortlen's lawyer John M. Phillips shared the news on his Twitter account on Sunday, May 25. "Update: Jamell Demons aka @YNWMelly's co-defendant Cortlen Henry aka @YNWBortlen was granted bond and house arrest. Melly remains in jail until trial. The victim's family understands the release but does not agree with it. They hope for full justice and safety of all witnesses," so he wrote.

The release appeared to give hopes to Melly's fans who seemed to be excitedly waiting for his imminent release. "One down next will be Melly its just a matter of time," a hopeful fan replied. Echoing the sentiment, another fan tweeted, "Melly go be home soon."

However, John appeared to shut down the possibility of Melly being released from prison soon. "The Melly fans thinking he's getting released are beyond delusional," he responded to a fan. "He's not getting released unless a jury says so and there is evidence he killed these young men in cold blood. Whether you like his music or not, these families deserve justice."

Prior to this, a judge turned down Melly's request for house arrest while awaiting his trial for a double-murder case though he claimed that he feared of dying inside the prison for not receiving adequate care for his COVID-19 symptoms. According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the judge ordered that Melly, whose real name is Jamell Maurice Demons, remained in the Broward County Jail in Florida.

The judge said that if the 20-year-old hip-hop star did want to get medical treatment in jail, he could speak to the Broward Sheriff's Office for arrangements. The denial prompted him to make a public plea to Kanye West, but apparently never got a response from the "Gold Digger" spitter.
