AceShowbiz - The South Florida rapper YNW Melly has been denied bond once again after spending seven years incarcerated while fighting charges related to a double murder case.
On Thursday, April 30, YNW Melly appeared at his latest bond hearing, his first with a new legal team. The judge deferred the decision on whether he would be released before his upcoming trial. However, on Wednesday, May 6, Broward County Judge Martin S. Fein ruled to deny the rapper’s request for bond, meaning he will remain in custody pending his retrial.
YNW Melly has persistently sought bond over the years, including filing a lawsuit against the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in 2024. In that suit, he alleged violations of his human rights as part of his efforts to secure release, but these attempts have not succeeded.
The rapper faces charges for the 2018 killing of two of his childhood friends. His initial trial in 2023 ended in a mistrial, prompting the prosecution to pursue a retrial. This process has been delayed multiple times since. In October of last year, YNW Melly was additionally charged with witness tampering, but those charges were dropped in January.
In August, YNW Melly changed his legal representation, bringing on high-profile attorney Drew Findling, who is also involved in the Lil Durk murder-for-hire case and represents other notable artists like Cardi B, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and YFN Lucci.
The retrial for YNW Melly is now scheduled for January of next year. The rapper remains in custody as he continues to face serious legal battles ahead.
