Days after publicly denying that he and Ben have got back together, the CNN News anchor opens up about the real reason why he asked his ex-boyfriend to help him raise his son Wyatt together.

AceShowbiz - Anderson Cooper is spilling the beans on his decision to share parenting duties with his ex-boyfriend. One week after he denied getting back together with Benjamin Maisani, the "Anderson Cooper 360°" anchor explained in another interview the real reason why he wants his ex to be very much involved in his son's life.

During an appearance on SiriusXM's "The Howard Stern Show", the 52-year-old was asked by host Howard Stern, "Don't you want a clean break from this guy? I mean this was a guy, you were in love, you had a close relationship, why have him involved?" In response, he first pointed out, "I don't really have a family, so my friends have become my family."

"This is somebody I was involved with for 10 years," the journalist went on to explain. "He's a great guy. We didn't work out as a couple, but … when I was a little kid, it was just my mom and my brother, but it was my mom - she was not the most parental person and I wish some adult after my dad died had stepped in and just been like, 'You know what, I'll take you to a ball game.' "

The youngest son of Gloria Vanderbilt continued, "You know, no one ever did that and so I thought, well if something happens to me or even if something doesn't happen to me, if more people love my son and are in his life, I'm all for that." He added, "You know, my ex is a great guy, and I think it's good to have two parents if you can."

Anderson surprised many on April 30 with his announcement that he has welcomed his first child, a baby boy, four days earlier through surrogate. On the name he chose for his boy, the news anchor shared, "He is named after my father, who died when I was ten. I hope I can be as good a dad as he was. My son's middle name is Morgan. It's a family name on my mom's side."

Days later, reports suggesting Anderson has reconciled with his ex Benjamin surfaced. A so-called inside source told Us Weekly that the two, who parted ways in 2018 after nine years together, "very quietly got back together and are planning ahead." However, in an interview on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert", Anderson stated, "We're not together anymore."
