AceShowbiz - Juelz Santana is another of hip-hop stars whose prison sentence may be affected by the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The rapper's wife has launched an online petition asking for his early release from prison amid fears of the spread of the disease at correctional facilities across the U.S.
Kimberly James a.k.a. Kimbella Vanderee started the petition on Change.org on Saturday, April 4 with the title #FreeJuelzSantana. She stated, "#FreeJuelzSantana AKA Laron James needs to be freed during this pandemic to be with his family. He is currently on lockdown for 2 weeks because of the Covid 19 virus outbreak. He has served 13 months at FCI Petersburg and should be allowed to serve the rest of his sentence on home confinement."
"BOP & Honorable Judge Chesler can make this happen for Laron," the Love & Hip Hop: New York star addressed her plea to the judge, before arguing, "He is a good husband, father, son, brother, friend and has a positive media influence as a legendary rap artist. We need you to sign this petition to get Laron James aka Juelz Santana home."
Earlier this month, Tekashi69 a.k.a. 6ix9ine was released from prison after his lawyer Lance Lazzaro filed a request to Judge Paul Engelmayer for his client's early release from jail out of fears of contracting the coronavirus in cell. The attorney reasoned that the rapper's preexisting health issues could put him at high risk if he catches the disease. The lawyer noted the "FEFE" hitmaker has asthma, which has hospitalized him several times in the past. He also stated that 6ix9ine had bronchitis and sinusitis last October.
Additionally, YNW Melly's Instagram account administrator announced on Thursday, April 2 that the star would be filing a motion for restricted release after he tested positive for COVID-19 while awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail. Citing his health condition, the "Mixed Personalities" hitmaker hopes the request will be granted so he can get "better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus."
