Sophie Gregoire Trudeau announces she tested positive for COVID-19 after 'experiencing uncomfortable symptoms,' while the Canadian Prime Minister 'is in good health with no symptoms.'

AceShowbiz - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau has tested positive for coronavirus. The 44-year-old has confirmed this after she and her husband made the decision to self-quarantine amid fears of the growing COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, March 12, Sophie said in a statement, "First I'd like to say a big thank you to all of you who have reached out to me asking how I'm doing. Although I'm experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon." She added, “Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns."

Sophie began showing "mild symptoms" of the virus after returning from a speaking engagement in the United Kingdom. While she was tested for coronavirus, her husband Justin has not yet been tested since he doesn't show any symptoms.

The 48-year-old politician, however, will remain in isolation. The office said in a statement, "The Prime Minister is in good health with no symptoms. As a precautionary measure and following the advice of doctors, he will be in isolation for a planned period of 14 days. Also on the advice of doctors, he will not be tested at this stage since he has no symptoms. For the same reason, doctors say there is no risk to those who have been in contact with him recently."

Justin also took to his Twitter account to give an update on his wife's condition. "Unfortunately, the results of Sophie's COVID-19 test are positive. Therefore, she will be in quarantine for the time being. Her symptoms remain mild and she is taking care of herself and following the advice of our doctor," he tweeted.

Assuring that he's in good health, the prime minister added that he will continue with his duties. "I am feeling fine & I'm not exhibiting any symptoms of the virus, but I will also be following the advice of our doctor and I will continue to self-isolate for now," he shared. "During that time, as I did today, I'll continue to work from home and conduct meetings via video & teleconference."
