The daughter of Lionel Richie also opens up about how living under the shadow of her father's name has made her feel 'discouraged' and made it hard for her to branch out into her own person.

AceShowbiz - Sofia Richie is keeping the peace with Kourtney Kardashian. When talking about her romance with her much-older boyfriend Scott Disick, the daughter of Lionel Richie opened up about why she keeps her relationship with his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his three children on good terms.

In a cover interview for the April issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, the 21-year-old model was asked about how she got along with the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star. "I mean, just be nice," she shared her thoughts on the matter. "There's no reason not to be nice."

During the chat, Sofia also addressed criticism she received for dating Scott. Insisting she has "this weird thing where I just don't care what people think", she inquired in return, "Why would I let someone from the middle of nowhere ruin that for me?"

The younger sister of Nicole Richie continued to stress that all hate comments didn't "bother me because I'm very happy." She further claimed that her parents didn't mind her dating someone 15 years older than her, noting that the age gap between her parents are similar to that of hers and Scott's.

Elsewhere in the interview, Sofia opened up about how it was hard to make a name for herself under the shadows of her father's success. "When things were first starting, I was discouraged because everything I did was 'Lionel Richie's daughter,' " she confided.

While adding that "it's hard branching out into my own person when I have such a powerful artist as a father," she could not help but remember her father's supportive advice. "My dad was always like, 'Once you find your thing, you'll move away from that,' and I feel like over the past couple of years, I found my lane in life to go the direction I want to go," she reflected.

On her career aspiration, Sofia explained why she didn't want to be known for just being a model. "A lot of people just become models because they're influencers," she said. "We would all get the same jobs, be in the same space, and be labeled the same thing, and I hated it. It made me step back and be like, Okay, I'm a creative individual and I want to be smart, start my own businesses, do something I can do on my own, and not be attached to other people."
