The former Democratic presidential candidate welcomes the guilty verdict handed down by the jury in Harvey Weinstein's high-profiled sexual assault trial.

AceShowbiz - Hillary Clinton has welcomed the conviction of her one time political donor, movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, for sexual assault and third-degree rape.

Following the trial's conclusion in Manhattan, New York City, on Monday, February 24, 2020, Weinstein, who once held star-studded fundraisers for former U.S. First Lady's presidential campaigns, faces up to 29 years in prison on the felony charges.

Speaking at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany on Tuesday, where she is promoting her new documentary series, "Hillary", Clinton told Variety the jury's verdict, "really speaks for itself."

She added, "It is obviously something that people have looked at and followed, because it was time for an accounting and the jury clearly found that."

Weinstein was one of Clinton's biggest supporters in Hollywood, and reportedly contributed around $1.4 million to her unsuccessful 2016 presidential campaign.

Asked by Variety whether the verdict will cause politicians to think more carefully about the donations they accept from entertainment moguls, Clinton said she doesn't think it will "chill" the donations process.

The politician continued, "He contributed to every Democrat's campaign - he contributed to Barack Obama's campaign, John Kerry's campaign, Al Gore's campaign, everyone's campaign. I don't know whether that should chill anyone else from contributing to political campaigns but it should certainly end the kind of behaviour for which he was convicted for."

Hillary debuts on the Hulu streaming service on March 6.
