The 'X-Files' actress was less than impressed when she first read the script for the Netflix series before being urged by her husband to give it another look.

AceShowbiz - Gillian Anderson tossed her "Sex Education" script in the trash after she first read it, because it was such a turn-off.

The actress has starred in the acclaimed Netflix series for two seasons, but admits her initial reaction to the shocking drama was anything but enthusiastic.

"I'm not really sure whether I thought ahead," she told "The One Show" on Monday, January 20, 2020. "When I first read it, I had not really responded to it."

But her partner, "The Crown" creator Peter Morgan, urged her to give it another look.

"I'd kind of put it in the bin and my partner suggested I take it out of the bin and look at it a bit more seriously," she continued.

The 51 year old reveals after giving the production another look, she was able to appreciate how rich the content was.

"I found it incredibly hilarious, and kind of got what it was that they were after," she added.

The former "The X-Files" star portrays sex therapist Dr. Jean Milburn, whose teenage son launches a sex therapy clinic at school.

Anderson, who herself has three children, admits she was eventually won over by the themes of parenthood and communication.

"To me that's one of the most important elements of the series, that it has so much heart and that it deals with very, very challenging issues that teenagers and families go through," she added.
