The actor husband of Barbra Streisand reveals that he finally secured financing for his first helming venture for the big screen after revamping the film's script.

AceShowbiz - James Brolin has secured financing for his feature film directorial debut after revamping the project's script.

The movie veteran, who is married to Barbra Streisand, has directed for TV in the past, but the new film will be his first venture for the big screen.

"I've been working on this for four years," he tells Access Daily. "It was given to me several years ago for me to do and I kept going, 'I like the idea, but it's not shootable'."

"I finally sat down and rewrote it myself and everybody loves it now."

Brolin isn't giving up any details about the project, but he has been dreaming of stepping behind the camera for years.

"If you go back to all the Academy Award-winning directors, most of them were failed actors who became directors that nobody knew about," he adds.

"You've gotta be in a workshop to know (what to do)...," Brolin adds. "You've gotta know what makes an actor tick by doing it yourself."
