The younger half-brother of hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, who has been taken into police custody for murdering his own father, has allegedly been suffering from a mental illness.

AceShowbiz - The mother of Rae Sremmurd rappers Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi has claimed their younger half-brother, who has been accused of murdering his father and her ex-husband, suffers from a mental illness requiring medication.

Michael Sullivan, 19, was initially taken into custody for a psychiatric evaluation after police in Tupelo, Mississippi found his dad, Floyd Sullivan, shot dead at the family home on Monday night, January 6, 2020.

He was named as a person of interest in the case and, after being released from the hospital on Tuesday, he was placed under arrest for murder by officers at the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

However, mum Bernadette Walker told TMZ Michael suffers from Schizoaffective disorder, with symptoms including hallucinations, delusions and mood disorders, such as mania and depression

According to Bernadette, the teenager was living with her in Atlanta until last November 2019, when he stopped taking his medication and eventually went to live with his dad, Floyd, in Mississippi. She alleged his outbursts became more extreme when he came off the medication.

While she confessed she doesn't know what caused Michael to allegedly shoot his father, she speculated an argument may have escalated due to Michael coming off his pills once again.

She went on to hit out at mental healthcare in the U.S., claiming that since Michael turned 18 she couldn't force him to take his medication, which is essential to keep him calm.

Bernadette and Floyd divorced in 2008.
