'The Irishman' Wins Best Movie at 2019 New York Film Critics Circle

Martin Scorsese's Netflix gangster movie takes home the top prize only a day after it was lauded by America's top critics at the National Board of Review.

AceShowbiz - Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman" has picked up another major top movie prize after landing the 2019 Best Film award from members of the New York Film Critics Circle.

The Netflix mob movie also earned Joe Pesci the Best Supporting Actor honour, while Antonio Banderas ("Pain and Glory"), Lupita Nyong'o ("Us"), and Laura Dern ("Marriage Story" and "Little Women") picked up the other acting accolades.

"Uncut Gems" filmmakers, brothers Benny and Josh Safdie, claimed the Best Director honour, and Best Screenplay went to Quentin Tarantino for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".

The winners were announced on Wednesday, December 4 - a day after "The Irishman" was crowned Best Movie of the Year by America's top critics at the National Board of Review.

The New York Film Critics Circle prizegiving will take place on January 7.
